We, not the illegals, get to decide who may come to America

The most basic, and most important, question of the entire immigration debate, and the one least discussed by the media or politicians, is this: Who gets to decide who can become an American?

The pro-illegal side believes that foreigners get to decide who enjoys the benefits of America. Even though every other nation on Earth sets up exacting rules for who gets to come to their country, in America, we are told, foreigners themselves should decide who gets our welfare and our jobs. Of course, this is a recipe for national suicide.

AMERICANS should decide whom we will allow to join us among the tens of millions, or hundreds of millions, who would come tomorrow if given the chance. We should decide how many poor immigrants we can support, how many engineers and doctors, how many refugees we will take in, how many others can be taught our freedoms and way of life each year.

This idea that the illegals get to choose, not us, is the central premise of the supporters of “comprehensive immigration reform,” and we must put this simple question at the forefront of our national immigration policy debate.

We want many hard-working, honest people who believe in our constitution and will learn English to come here and help us remain the greatest nation throughout the 21st century. But WE decide who gets to enjoy the bounty and freedom of America; not the people coming here illegally.
